Petroleum products exploration and production regulator the Petroleum Agency of South Africa (PASA) has appointed Dr Bongani Sayidini as acting CEO, with effect from March 1.

“His appointment comes at a critical time as we continue to drive South Africa's oil and gas exploration agenda while navigating the country's transition to alternative energy solutions,” says PASA chairperson Satish Roopa.

Sayidini previously served as PASA COO and is a petroleum engineer with 24 years’ experience in the industry.

He has held various technical and strategic leadership roles, including PASA exploration and production VP and acting CEO of State-owned petroleum company PetroSA.

Sayidini holds a bachelors in chemical engineering and an MSc in petroleum engineering from the University of London, and a diploma from the Imperial College, London.

He earned his LLM in petroleum law and policy from the University of Dundee, and earned a PhD in petroleum law and an MBA from the University of Cape Town.

“His expertise positions him well to lead PASA through this interim period. Leadership transitions can bring uncertainty, but the board and executive team of PASA support Dr Sayidini. His expertise and vision will be instrumental in ensuring continuity and progress at PASA,” says Roopa.

“Under the leadership of previous acting CEO Dr Tshepo Mokoka, PASA made significant strides in advancing its mandate, and we are confident that Dr Sayidini, supported by the PASA team, will build on this momentum.

“We remain committed to advancing our strategic objectives and reinforcing our role in South Africa's evolving energy landscape,” he added.

The board continues with the process of recruiting a permanent CEO.
